Goodreads Tag

I’ve recently subscribed to abookutopia who is a booktuber and I absolutely love her videos! After watching her Goodreads tag I wanted to give it a go myself but in a blog post. If you guys didn’t know already Goodreads is a website that gives you the latest on all book related things including reviews and new releases. I’ve only recently made an account but I’m loving it so far. I definitely recommend you check it out if you’re a lover of books like I am.

What is the last book you read?
The last book I read was Looking for Alaska by John Green and it was a pretty good relatable book but I definitely think it’s a little overrated. You can check out my review on Looking for Alaska here: http://ridawkward-and-hyperbubbly.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/looking-for-alaska-by-john-green-short.html

What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading The Fault in our Stars by John Green and I have been absolutely loving it so far! I’ve fallen in love with the characters and I feel like John has redeemed himself after I didn’t really enjoy reading Looking for Alaska as much. It’s taking me ages to read it though because of exams so hopefully I’ll be finishing it as soon as summer starts.

What was the last book you marked as TBR? (To be read)
The last book I added to my ‘to be read’ list was Undone by Cat Clarke. This book was recommended to me by a friend and I have read a few chapters in school but I haven’t properly started reading it. I am super excited to read it though as I was hooked from just the first few chapters and I am definitely hoping to read more of Cat Clarke’s books. It’s a very realistic book and addresses lots of issues that people go through every day so I definitely recommend that you check it out.

What book do you plan on reading next?
That is so hard to answer since there are just so many books I want to read. It’s either going to be Divergent by Veronica Roth since I want to read it before I watch the film, The Little Prisoner by Jane Elliott or I may start The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. These all look like fantastic books so it’s going to be a very hard decision deciding which one to read next.

Do you use the star rating system?
I do use the star rating system and I think it’s always good to rate books so other people know what to expect and whether the book is worth reading because whenever I find a new book on Goodreads I always look at the ratings to see what other people thought of it. I know some people would like to see half stars or percentage ratings as that’s more specific but I honestly don’t mind and I think Goodreads actually have a pretty good star rating system.

Are you doing a 2014 reading challenge?
I haven’t planned one to be honest because I’ve been so busy with schoolwork and exams and I knew I wouldn’t be able to read a lot however I really want to do one this summer as I’ll have a lot more time on my hands. I’m not sure how many books I’m going to challenge myself with but I’ll see as soon as summer starts.

Do you have a wish list?
I actually don’t have a wish list on Goodreads at the moment but I will probably be making one in the near future. I do however have a wish list on my phone which includes books like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie and many more.

What book do you plan on buying next?
I’m planning on buying Matched by Ally Condie or I might buy the whole trilogy in one go depending on if I can find it in a pack or if I have to buy the three books separately but I’ve been hearing lots of great things about this series so I’m buzzing to buy them and start reading them!

What’s your favourite quote?
Oh my gosh there are so many quotes that I love but I have narrowed it down to three. The first one is from my favourite book The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and it’s the last line of the book where it says “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past” which I think sums up the book pretty well. My next favourite quote is one that is less known from The Fault in our Stars by John Green and it’s from the cab driver when they arrive in Amsterdam. He says “In freedom, most people find sin” and I remember reading that and thinking he couldn’t have been more right. I thought that John Green was foreshadowing how with freedom comes a price and it is in fact short lived; especially for cancer patients like Hazel and Gus. And the last quote is from Looking for Alaska and is from Alaska Young herself when she says 'Y'all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die” which was really significant because this is how a lot of teenagers think and I think it really added to her mysteriousness and made me love her character even more.

Who are your favourite authors?
A few of my favourite authors would probably be Charlie Higson, Alan Gibbons and Jacqueline Wilson because I just adore the simplicity of their writing and it entices and urges you to keep reading. I remember reading books by Jacqueline Wilson when I was younger and literally falling in love with the fun aspects but then picking up a book like The Edge by Alan Gibbons and realising the world isn’t such a happy place after all. These authors all really know what they’re talking about and they are people whose books I could read again and again and never get bored.

Are you apart of any Goodreads groups?
I’m not part of any Goodreads groups at the moment as I’m fairly new to the website and everything on it but I will hopefully be joining some groups very soon. Which groups have you joined and which would you recommend?

What could Goodreads do better?
I think Goodreads could definitely make the search bar much more clever because if you spell one thing wrong it doesn’t correct you and it just says nothing was found so I think that definitely needs improving. Lastly I think they could make the layout more clear and easier to navigate around as it can get confusing but other than that I do love Goodreads a lot and I’m glad I’ve come across it.

Thanks so much for reading! I really enjoyed doing this tag. Have any of you got a Goodreads account and what books are you loving at the moment?

Hugs & kisses,
Nabeela x
